When I was very little I used to think that musicians are different than other people, in this world there are musicians and, well, the rest.
Are musicians more sensitive to spirituality? Does a musician need to be more in tune with his inner self in order to be able to express it or to reflect it in the music he plays/composes? How could an organised set of notes and vibrations touch such deep parts of us?
I still don't understand quite well how the mechanism of music works,
Music still have a very deep effect on me, music still makes feel me happy, sad, makes me cry, and sometimes I even have an urge to daven after listening to a certain song!
Astor Piazzolla(1921-92) the virtuoso tango composer and bandoneon player is among my favorite artists, this is a video of a group performing one of his most popular compositions.

i guess that's why the leviyim sang as they did their avodah
Music, music, it is very , vey true that music has the ability to enter ones inner core and evoke an emotional outpouring, in some people the reaction is minor but in some people it seems like you it is much deeper. You should really be thankful for that.Maby you should pick up an instrument and try playing! The musicians that compose usually are in touch with their inner being and when you listen to it and really are touched then you can sort of be in touch with what they put into it. There are of course major differences, Music from R carlbach is really coming from a powerful holy core,There are some chassidishe nigunim made up from holy Rebbis that are also extremely powerful(have you ever been at a tisch!) and of course there is the other extreme, for instance the Pink Floyd band , their music has to be coming from the ruach hatumah, because it is unbelievable music but they were composed in a drug induced state.
So to answer your question about being more sensitive, I think the better musicians for sure are more sensitive to spirituality (but there are two sides).
But music is a gateway to real spirituality, a gateway, meaning you can use it anyway you like.
For me it really is up there, and i try to listen or play a bit too,(a guitar) with some friends or by myself and it helps me out alot. I'm telling you there is nothing like a good R shlomo song that you sing over and over and really understand the words that he put to the niggun, but that is just me, everyone has his or hers style that talks to them wether jewish or secular, it is coming from the same soul.
welcome heart of fire, I indeed play violin B"H since I was 9,and I compose some humble lines, it is one of many things that I thank my parents for: building the undrstanding and appreciation of music within me.
Yes I have been in a tish (bobov), I mean I was watching from the women's section :-) I don't understand yiddish, and I don't have a kesher to the bobov, but I go for the niggunim.
R'Carlebach z'tl was a genious, may his neshomo be in peace.
If you have anything else that interests you in the field of music or any questions, or any ideas that you wish to right about I would care to listen an try to respond. Is there a specific band that you enjoy? Good music is good no matter what.Chabad is one chassidus that has probably the best niggunim, fastand slow. I was just heard someone tonight who was playing Carlebach, the guy is unbelievable with a tremendous voice and he just played on and on. It would really be a gevald if mamesh the whole world could hear him.
I will be I"Y"H writing about my interests in music subsequently, stay tuned!
